What's on The Line, Tom Brady?

Updated: Apr 18, 2021

With the Super Bowl being played in 11 days the biggest question has been, Brady or Mahomes? For us that question is one that come Super Bowl Sunday will be answered.

As Fox Sports analyst, Skip Bayless often says ”There is one man in ALL OF SPORTS that you just. Don't. Bet. Against. “And that is none other than Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.

But for sports sake, and for reality sake, what were to be on the line if Brady lost?

Tom Brady at the end of the 2019-2020 season threw his last pass as a New England Patriot. If any of you remember, it ended in a pick six… As Tennessee Titans DB Logan Ryan high stepped to the end zone after picking Brady's last pass as a New England Patriot off to seal the playoff victory. Yes the Patriots made the playoffs last season, although it was a struggle for most of the season we saw that if you have Brady, you'll be in the playoffs, and if you don't you finish 7-9...

Tom Brady was 42, and ready to move on, and the Patriots decided to move on too.

Fast forward to now.

The man is 43 years old playing in the NFC with Brees (New Orleans Saints), Rodgers (Green bay Packers) and Wilson (Seattle Seahawks).

Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had the worst winning percentage in all of sports history. That is before the Brady effect. Tampa Bay is now hosting a Super Bowl and playing in it.

The accomplishments don't stop there.

He did it with LESS. Yes you heard me correct. LESS.

  • NO Belichick

  • NO AFC East or Least

  • NO OTAs

  • NO familiarity in the system

All those “no’s” led only to a Super Bowl appearance the hard way. Beating Brees, whom he had lost to 2X in the regular season. Beating Rodgers in the NFC championship game after beating him in the regular season, as well as last Sunday. And beating the Washington Football Team. All 3 playoff wins came on the road.

Brady ended his first run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Throwing for 40 TDs (2nd in NFL) and for 4,633 Passing Yards (3rd in NFL) all while juggling a new team.

Brady has done more than prove he is the greatest. And win, or lose next Sunday he has already proved enough. He has nothing on the line. A matchup against Mahomes who killed Brady's Bucs in the regular season, albeit in the first half. The Buccaneers have the cards stacked against them.

Brady can play free. After all he is 43 years old and 18 years older than Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. But Brady won't use this game as an friendly exhibition, or an exchange of GOAT titles, Brady will try to show he is still the man on top. That is what makes him who he is.

Very rarely in a Super Bowl does a starting QB have nothing to lose. It is even more rare a starting QB, start in 48% of the Super Bowls played in his career. Brady just has to stick the course in the game and protect his legacy. What else does a 6X Super Bowl champ have to prove? He has already bested Mahomes and company before in the 2018 AFC Championship, which led New England to winning it all. Beating Mahomes again will just be a cherry on top of ice cream that already has whipped cream, and 6 other cherries.

Best of luck to both sides.

Great article. I hate Tom Brady but you provided objective statements that even a hater like me can’t disprove. Well done Caleb Veal.
